Carnatic Violin/Viola

Learn the art of melodic expression, gamakas (ornamentation), and rhythmic precision. Training includes solo and accompaniment techniques.  All ages (register below)

Renting or buying?
Violins come in many sizes but the most common are 1/4, 1/2 and full size. Most violin shops rent student level violins so you can make the decision to purchase when you have had some expereience.

Mridangam

Develop a strong foundation in mridangam technique, rhythm sense, tala structures and the nuances of accompanying vocal and instrumental music.  All ages (register below)

You can either purchase or rent a drum from SkandanMusic.

Kanjira

Master finger control, tonal variations, and the unique dynamics of this compact yet powerful percussion instrument.  All ages (register below)

Konnakkol (vocal Rhythm)

Train in vocal percussion to internalize rhythmic patterns, improve timing and enhance your understanding of tala.  Aspiring nattuvanars welcome.  All ages (register below)
