What you will learn
Feel the pulse — establish a steady rhythmic foundation
Ta Ka and Ta Ka Di Mi — explore subdivision through clapping and spoken syllables
Adi Tala — experience rhythm as a repeating cycle
Build rhythmic patterns — combine these ideas into increasingly interesting phrases
No previous experience with Carnatic music is required.
How it works
This is a 60-minute live online session. Participants remain muted to avoid audio delay, but you’ll clap, recite and work through the rhythmic exercises along with Bala in real time. Questions can be submitted through the chat, with time for Q&A during the session.
All you need is your hands, your voice and a willingness to explore rhythm.
Next workshop: October 17th • 11am New York Time
